DDU-GKY-Courses, Eligibility, Placements & Benefits

Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDU-GKY) aims to skill rural youth who are poor and provide them with jobs having regular monthly wages or above the minimum wages. It is one of the cluster of initiatives of the Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India that seeks to promote rural livelihoods. It is a part of the National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM) – the Mission for poverty reduction called Aajeevika. The scheme will benefit more than 55 million poor rural youth who are ready to be skilled by providing sustainable employment.

This scheme derives importance from its potential to reduce poverty. It is also designed to be a major contributor to the Prime Minister’s ‘Make in India‘ campaign.

SKILLING AND PLACEMENT UNDER DDU-GKY

  • Awareness building within the community on the opportunities
  • Identifying rural youth who are poor
  • Mobilizing rural youth who are interested
  • Counseling of youth and parents
  • Selection based on aptitude
  • Imparting knowledge, industry linked skills and attitude that enhance employability
  • Providing jobs that can be verified through methods that can stand up to independent scrutiny, and which pays above minimum wages
  • Supporting the person so employed for sustainability after placement

Courses Available

Currently two categories of courses are available online.

1.Professional Courses 2.Master Trainer Course

Professional courses are intended to provide training in different aspects of the Standard Operating Procedures for project implementation under DDU-GKY.

Master Trainer courses are intended for those who wish to become trainers in different aspects of the Standard Operating Procedures for project implementation under DDU-GKY. Those who clear a course at this level are deemed to have also cleared the corresponding Professional course. They can participate as trainers in SOP training programmes and also volunteer as trainers on this e-learning portal.

Eligibility for DDU-GKY

  • The eligible candidate should be in the age group of 15-35 years.
  • Women from rural areas are eligible for up to 45 years of age.
  • Persons with a disability can also apply (45 years)
  • Transgender people and other special groups
  • Particularly vulnerable Tribal groups are also eligible under the program.

Benefits of the DDU-GKY program

  • DDU-GKY scheme is market-linked and follows the PPP model.

  • Efforts to place 75% of candidates in jobs with a minimum salary of ₹6000.
  • Training also includes basic computer knowledge and other soft skills for overall development.

Placement Assistance

A candidate is assisted with placement to the tune of ₹1000/ month for two month period if employed within the district of domicile for three months if employed within the State of domicile and six months if employed outside the State. The amount is directly transferred to the candidate’s account.
